ASSTA Research Event Awards

Research Events Awards are available for three classes of events:

  1. groundwork meetings or for setting up new or strengthening existing research collaborations or,
  2. seminars centred around a particular theme,
  3. workshops on particular issues of note, new theories, procedures, approaches, etc.

The Research Events award is worth $5000. Applications for the awards will be called twice per year, and up to one award will be made each round. The first round in 2010 closes April 16th , the second round closes September 17th. One award will be made each round. Only applications that fulfil the criteria listed below will be considered.

Eligibility Criteria

The principal applicant(s) must be:

There may be partner applicants who do not fulfil these criteria, but preference will be given to applications which include a critical mass of Australasian ASSTA members.

Application Procedure

Applicants should complete the Research Events Awards Form. Complete applications should be posted or emailed to the ASSTA Secretary to be received no later than Friday April 16th, 2010..

Research Events Awards Proposal Guidelines

ASSTA Research Events Awards are available for three classes of events:

  1. groundwork meetings or workshops for setting up new or strengthening existing research collaborations or to facilitate collaborative grants,
  2. seminars centred around a particular theme,
  3. workshops on particular issues of note new theories, procedures, statistical approaches, etc., including the cost of presenters, both Australasian and O/S if necessary,
  4. workshops on university/industry initiatives, eg, meetings to discuss mutual research interests, or funding for promotional material to present to industry, or funding of small research projects with a matching contribution from the industry partner.

The following principles are among those that these applications will be considered. While each application may not address all of these, they should be borne in mind when preparing your application. Research event applications should:

  1. Promote research activity in speech science and technology in Australia and New Zealand.
  2. Promote national and/or international collaboration in speech science and technology.
  3. Address a significant issue of topical interest in speech science and/or technology.
  4. Include participants from different spheres of activity, eg, academia and industry.
  5. Include participants at different stages of their research career, eg, established researchers / technologists AND younger and / or early career researchers / technologists.
  6. Relate to an ongoing program of research or have definite benefits for establishing a program of research.
  7. Involve funds from other sources where possible.
